Creating custom link types

You can create custom link types for files that are under Rational Team Concert source control. By default, new link types are available to all project areas in the repository.

Before you begin

You must have permissions to administer link types in a project area to be able to change or create user-defined link types. For details, see Customizing permissions in a team area.

  1. From the web client, open a project area and go to Link Types.
  2. Click the Administration icon; then, click Manage This Project Area.
  3. Click Link Types.
  4. To add a link type, on the Link Types page, click Add.
  5. In the Add Link Type window, complete the following steps:
    1. In the Display Name field, enter a name for the link type.
    2. In the Reverse Display Name field, enter a name for the opposite direction of the link type.
    3. From the Link From list, select File.
    4. From the Link To list, select File.
Note: Currently, only custom links to and from a file are supported.
    5. In the OSLC Property field, enter a unique URI for the link type.
Note: To ensure consistency of link types and enable a shared vocabulary for reporting, assign the same URI to equivalent link type definitions across all applications.
    6. Click Add.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Optional: Use the Export and Import actions to share user-defined link types between repositories in different databases.
  8. Optional: To manually select which user-defined link types can be used in a project area, click the Manage the link types for this project area check box.
