Installing the Word and Excel export utility

You can install an add-in that works with Microsoft Word or Excel to export test data for use with the Quality Management application.

Before you begin

Make sure the following software is installed before you install the Word and Excel export utility:
  • Microsoft .NET framework, v2.0 or later.
  • Microsoft Excel 2003 or later
  • Microsoft Word 2003 or later
You must have write access to the following directory:
  • C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Mso2Rqm log directory, where USER is the ID of the user (pre-Windows 7)
  • C:\Documents and Settings\USER\AppData\Roaming\Mso2Rqm log directory, where USER is the ID of the user (Windows 7)
Note: If you are using Rational® solution for Application Lifecycle Management 4.0, when you are creating a Requirements Management project area linked to Quality Management, make sure to check Use a template to initially populate the project and choose Base. In the Quality Management Project Area management Overview tab make sure to add the current user ID by Exporter to the members section and that the Data Migration Administrator role has been added to the user.


  1. You must first install the Microsoft interop support onto your system. Please refer to How to: Install Office Primary Interop Assemblies for instructions on installing this support.
    Note: The prerequisite for the interop assemblies is .Net framework v2.0, however choosing to install the most recent version is the only alternative in the Software Updater and is compatible with the installation of the interop assemblies.
    Note: The .Net framework v1.1 should also be installed from the Software Updater if not already available. This version is needed by the interop assemblies.
  2. Download the compressed Word and Excel utility file:
    1. Go to the download page for IBM® Rational Quality Manager.
    2. Click the link for your version of Rational Quality Manager. This version is the same as for theRational solution for Collaborative Lifecycle Management (CLM).
    3. Click the All Downloads tab, and then scroll down to the Extras section.
    4. Locate the Microsoft Excel and Word to Rational Quality Manager Import Utility entry, click All, view the license agreement, and click I agree to the terms of the license, and then click Accept.
      Note: is compatible with a Rational Quality Manager 2.x server.
    5. Choose a download location and save the file. The file should begin downloading.
  3. Extract the file that you downloaded to a temporary location.
  4. From the temporary location, run one of these setup files:
    • For Excel, run the RQMExcelImporterSetup.exe file.
    • For Word, run the RQMWordImporterSetup.exe file.
  5. Click Install when asked if you want to install, click Next to go through the installation wizard, and then click Close when the installation is complete.
  6. Open Microsoft Excel or Word, and verify that the RQM menu is available either on the menu bar or under the Tools > Add-Ins menu .
