Creating the IMS DBD Metadata
Use the Extract DBD button to create DBD server metadata. Each DBD map name is derived from the DBD source content.
About this task
The Extract DBD page creates server metadata containing information extracted from the selected DBD source. This DBD metadata is a prerequisite for creating IMS virtual tables.
Procedure
-
On the Extract DBD page, complete the following fields and click Next:
Field Action Schema Name
Enter the default schema name (DVSQL).
Metadata Library
From the drop-down list, select the target library where the DBD metadata will be stored (for example, hlq.USER.MAP). The target libraries are specified in the server's started task JCL.
Available Source Libraries
From the list of Available Source Libraries, select the virtual source library that contains the DBD source member and click Apply.
Use the Filter pattern button to filter the list. This displays the list of Source library members.
Source Library Members (Select one)
Select the PDS members that represent the data structures to copy the members from the mainframe.
Select the PDS member to view the member's details in the Content section.

On the IMS Server Configuration page, complete the following steps and click Next:
Field Action - Use IMS-Direct
- Use IMS/DBCTL
Select the IMS protocol to use:
- Use IMS/DBCTL: Choose Use IMS/DBCTL to use IMS API calls.
- Use IMS-Direct: Choose IMS-Direct to enable IMS Direct for the DBD. To use this feature, IMS Direct must also be enabled in the Data Virtualization Manager server IN00 file. You must select this option for the DBD to allow IMS Direct for a virtual table. By default, the Use IMS/DBCTL option is selected.
