Climate-Controlled Diamondback

Climate-Controlled Diamondback unit is a breakthrough in tape storage technology, designed to meet the evolving needs of modern data centers. This new configuration option integrates a rear-door air conditioning (AC) unit into the Diamondback tape library, enabling reliable tape operations in environments previously considered unsuitable for tape storage.

Purpose-Built for Challenging Environments

Engineered for deployment in high-temperature and high-humidity conditions, the Climate-Controlled Diamondback features a sealed, insulated single-frame design that creates a stable micro-climate. This protects sensitive tape drives and media from environmental excursions, reducing the risk of heat-related failures by up to 90%.

By eliminating the need for dedicated tape rooms, this configuration supports up to ASHRAE A3 and A4 standards, making it ideal for hyperscale and adiabatic data centers. It delivers high-capacity tape archiving with energy efficiency, consuming less than 10% of the power required by comparable HDD systems.

The Climate-Controlled Diamondback redefines tape storage by enabling flexible, cost-effective, and energy-efficient archiving in non-traditional, warmer environments.

  • Achieves a 94% reduction in energy use compared to traditional cooling setups
  • Maximum power consumption: 1.8 kWh

User-Friendly Physical Features

Despite its sealed design, the Climate-Controlled Diamondback maintains visibility and accessibility:
  • Four high-visibility panels on the front door allow users to monitor robotic activity and LED status indicators.
  • A temperature and humidity card (THC) provides real-time environmental data and safety indicators.

The front door has a series of LED on the THC card guide users through safe door access, transitioning from a red stop icon to green when conditions are safe to open any library door.
