Adding an open systems host

When you add a new open systems host to your storage network, you can use the DS8000® Storage Management GUI to configure the connection between the host and your DS8000 storage system.

Before you begin

Make sure that you have a list of the worldwide port names (WWPN) of the host ports that are on the new host.

Procedure

  1. Add the host to the storage system by using the Add Host action on the Hosts page.
  2. Assign host ports to the host by entering the WWPN of the host ports.
  3. Create a set of FB volumes by using the Create Volumes action in either the Volumes page or the Volumes by Pool page. The maximum capacity for an FB volume is 16 TiB. The DS8000 Storage Management GUI automatically distributes capacity across the two pools.
Note: Select the Custom option in the Create Volumes window to customize the following settings for the volumes.
    • Thin provisioning
    • Allocation method
    • Logical subsystems (LSSs)
    • T10 data integrity field (T10-DIF) security standard
New volumes are displayed in the list of unmapped volumes in the Volumes by Host table.
  4. Map the volumes to the new host by using the Map to Host action.
  5. Configure the host and fabric to connect with the volumes. For more information, see the online product documentation about configuring hosts.
