Application Programming Interface

You can use the DS Open Application Programming Interface to integrate configuration-management support into storage-resource management (SRM) applications. You can then use your existing SRM application and infrastructures to configure and manage the DS system.

DS Open Application Programming Interface
The DS Open Application Programming Interface (API) is a nonproprietary storage management client application that supports routine LUN management activities. Activities that are supported include: LUN creation, mapping and masking, and the creation or deletion of RAID 5, RAID 6, and RAID 10 volume spaces.
CIM agent on the hardware management console
After you configure the CIM agent, you can manage the DS8000 system from the CIM agent that is bundled with the hardware management console (HMC) or from a CIM agent that is installed on a separate system.
CIM agent management commands
You can start the CIM agent by using single command-line invocation by including all of the relevant subcommands, parameters, and values on one command line.
DSCIMCLI commands
The DSCIMCLI setup commands are required for the CIM agent to communicate with the DS8000. You can use DSCIMCLI commands in single-shot mode to manage the CIM agent.
DS Open API component definitions
The DS Open API consists of the following elements: schemas, classes, properties, methods, indications, associations, references, and qualifiers.
CIM agent communication with the DS Open API
An understanding of communication concepts and methods between the CIM agent and the DS Open API is required for the management of the DS8000. An understanding of functional groups that are supported by the CIM is also required.
Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service and Virtual Disk Service for Windows
The DS8000 system provides support for the Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service and Virtual Disk Service. The Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service can provide a point-in-time (shadow) copy of a Windows host volume while the volume is mounted and files are in use.
RESTful API
The RESTful API is an application on the DS8000 HMC for initiating simple storage operations through the Web.
CIM Agent and NIST SP 800-131a
