Configuring a syslog server

You can define servers that receive syslog information from the storage system. Syslog details include audit logs, GUI event information, and other internal messages.

About this task

The events that the syslog notification feature supports include the following:
  • Results of log in and logout
  • The user ID that entered commands, the commands that were issued, and the date and time the commands were issued
  • Changes in syslog configuration
  • Changes of user accounts and authentication
  • Commands that were issued from the command line client or graphical user interface
  • Other audit log events
  • var/log/messages
  • GUI events (including informational, warning, and error messages)

By default, syslog servers use the Transport Control Protocol (TCP) protocol. To use Transport Layer Security (TLS), you must enable TLS before you add any syslog servers. If the storage system includes syslog servers that use TCP, you must delete these servers before you can enable TLS. For more information, see Configuring a syslog server for TLS.

Procedure

  1. From the Settings menu, click Notifications to open Syslog page in the DS8000® Storage Management GUI.
  2. Click Add Syslog Server.
