MAP7260 Replacing the rack control hub

MAP7260 Section-1

About this task

Notes:
  • The replacement of the rack control hub is a manual process. There is no HMC GUI code driven process to manage the resource and help guide you through the repair.
  • There are two private networks: "Gray" and "Black." One of the two networks must always be functional to all connected nodes.
  • The private networks are automatically checked every few minutes by a microcode driven "heartbeat" communication process that checks HMC-to-CEC enclosure, HMC-to-iPDUs, and HMC-to-HMC communications. A serviceable event is opened if a problem is found.

Procedure

  1. To understand the Ethernet private network point-to-point cable connections, see the management console DS8000 service documentation cable diagrams.
    1. In the upper right corner of the management console, click Help.
    2. Select the Ethernet cables topic for the appropriate rack model: Cable diagrams > Ethernet cables > model number
  2. To replace the rack control hub, go to Exchange the rack control hub.

MAP7260 Section-2: Completing the rack control hub replacement

Procedure

  1. Check each rack control hub Ethernet port with a cable connected.

Is the Link LED on or the Activity LED flashing (or both)?

    • Yes. All cable connections are working. Exit this procedure and return to the procedure that sent you here.
    • No. Isolate and correct the problem before continuing.
  2. Display open serviceable events and their details.
Note: The replacement of the rack control hub might cause at least one new serviceable event to be opened for the loss of the private network connectivity.
    1. If a new serviceable event directly related to the rack control hub replacement was opened, you can close it.
    2. If a new serviceable event not directly related to the rack control hub replacement was opened, do not close it. After this repair is complete, repair the new serviceable event.
    3. Go to step 3.
  3. Exit this procedure. If an open serviceable event sent you here, close it.
