MAP7202 Determining the network status of the iPDUs
There is not a management console network topology tool to display the state of the iPDUs. This MAP provides a process to manually display the iPDU state one iPDU at a time.
MAP7202 Section-1
Procedure
-
The iPDUs in Rack -1 (Models A01, A05) and Rack-2 (Model E05) are in the same standard
locations for all models. The iPDU location codes are shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1. Location codes for iPDUs, Models A05/E05 (rear)
-
Display the iPDU status for each iPDU to determine the overall condition of the power
system.
- Login to the Hardware Management Console.
-
Select the storage facility: Tasks > Service Utilities > Manage FRUs … > Show
Storage Facility Attributes > Show Rack Enclosures > Select the rack > Show FRUs
One or two pairs of iPDUs are displayed.Note: The last three characters of the iPDU location code are the last three characters in Figure 1.
- Select an iPDU > Show Attributes.
- The Show Rack FRU Attributes screen displays the pduState. See Figure 2.
Figure 2. pduState attribute value
-
Use Table 1 to determine the action to take.
Table 1. pduState attribute value Description Action Available The HMC can communicate with the iPDU. There is no problem. The iPDU network communication is normal. No connection The HMC cannot communicate with the iPDU. The iPDU is receiving customer power and providing power to the power supplies connected to it. The problem most likely can be isolated using visual symptoms. - If you were sent here from MAP7200 Section-3 Visual checks, stop and call the next level of support.
- If you were not sent here from MAP7200 Section-3 Visual checks, exit this map and go to MAP7200 Section-3 Visual checks.
AC loss - The HMC cannot communicate with the iPDU.
- The HMC detected loss of power reported for all power supplies connected to this iPDU.
- Network communication is restored when customer power to iPDU is restored.
- Ensure that both ends of the mainline power cable between the iPDU and the customer power source are connected.
- Work with the customer to restore power to the iPDU.
Service The iPDU is in "service mode". A service action is in progress. The iPDU state is returned to Available when the service action is complete. Fenced The iPDU has an error condition. The SF code has changed the iPDU state to Fenced. This removes it from use prior to the SSR beginning the repair action. Then the state is changed to Service. Display open serviceable events and repair the one with this iPDU in the FRU list. Not present - This state is only for rackless systems in prior releases.
- Not Present state alters the error handling, FRU list and MAP isolation process that is called.
N/A for A0x and E05. - Return to the procedure that sent you here.
