MAP1245 Finding FRUs by using location codes

How to convert a location code to the storage facility location that contains the FRU or function.

In most cases, any FRU listed in a serviceable event includes a location code. Cables are a special case because they do not have their own location code. Cables that can be identified as failing by the microcode use the location of the FRU connectors they connect to. This means that those cables have two location codes, one for each end of the cable. For a Y cable in the power system, there will be three location codes. Cables that are not reported directly by the microcode are determined by guided isolation procedures.

MAP1245 Section-1

  1. Location codes have two parts:
    • The "MTMS" (machine type, model, serial number) of the rack or enclosure within the rack
    • The physical location within the rack or enclosure
    Example of location code: 2107.D05.UF00177-P2-C1-T2
    • The MTMS(machine type, model, serial number):
      • 2107.D05 = storage enclosure (machine type/model)
      • UF00177 = storage enclosure serial number (visible on the "1S" bar code label)
    • The physical location:
      • P2 = ESM 2 (right ESM in storage enclosure)
      • C1 = ESM port card
      • T2 = storage cable connector (second from top on ESM)
  2. To convert the MTMS or location code to the FRU type or enclosure type, select the following conditions that apply:
