Checking cables on all racks
About this task
Confirm proper cable connector seating. Use the "push, pull, push" process described here to check each connector.
Procedure
-
At the rear of Rack-1, do the following steps at the rear of both CEC enclosures:
-
Ensure that the following private network Ethernet cables are connected:
- Model A0x
-
- Black Ethernet cables are connected to P1-C1-T1 (top) and P1-C11-T1 (top).
- Gray Ethernet cables are connected to P1-C1-T2 (bottom) and P1-C11-T2 (second from top).

-
Check each PCIe connector to ensure that it is latched.
- Model A01:
- P1-C6-T1
- P1-C8-T1
- P1-C9-T1
- P1-C12-T1
- P1-C2-T1
- P1-C3-T1
- P1-C3-T2
- P1-C4-T1
- P1-C6-T1
- P1-C8-T1
- P1-C9-T1
- P1-C12-T1
- Model A01:
-
Ensure that the following private network Ethernet cables are connected:
-
At the rear of each I/O enclosure for Rack-1 and Rack-2 (if present), check each PCIe
connector to ensure that it is latched. See Figure 3.
Note: For zHyperLink or optical PCIe, pull and push the transceiver, not the optical cable.
- P1-C7-T1
- P1-C7-T2
- If Rack-2 has a coil of PCIe cables behind the I/O enclosures, loosen the cable tie at the top of the coil and move it temporarily out of the way.
- If DS8000 feature 1341 (20 meter PCIe3 cableset) is included with Rack-2, optical PCIe connections are used, and the Rack-2 I/O enclosure PCIe connections are made in a later step.

At the rear of each I/O enclosure for Rack-1 and Rack-2 (if present), check each
bay-to-bay I2C cable connector to ensure that it is latched. See Figure 3.

-
At the rear of each I/O enclosure for Rack-1 and Rack-2 (if present), check each zHyperLink
PCIe optical transceiver and cable (if present) to ensure that it is latched. See Figure 4.

At the rear of each I/O enclosure for Rack-1 and Rack-2 (if present), check each storage
enclosure PCIe connector to ensure that it is latched. See Figure 3 and Figure 5.

At the rear of each NVMe flash enclosure for Rack-1 and Rack-2 (if present), check each PCIe
connector to ensure that it is latched. See Figure 6.

At the rear of each rack, ensure that all power cords that are connected to each power
distribution unit (PDU) connector J1 through J12 are fully seated. See Figure 7 and Figure 8.

Does the storage facility that you are installing have an expansion rack?
- Yes, go to Installing expansion racks.
- No, there is no expansion rack. Go to Routing the mainline power cables.
