BPMFRU

About this task

A failure was detected on the backup power module (BPM) of an NVDIMM.

Attention: If you received both a BPM and BPM cable FRU, replace both parts at the same time.
Note: If BPMFRU and BPMCBL appear together in the serviceable event FRU list, and the first part replacement does not fix the problem, replace the other part using the symbolic FRU procedure.

Procedure

  1. Does the BPM (Un-Px-Cx-Tx-Ex) appear as a FRU (not BPMFRU) in the serviceable event FRU list?

Pay close attention to which CEC enclosure (Un) contains the affected part.
    • No: Continue with step 2.
    • Yes: Exit this procedure and use the serviceable event to replace the BPM. For exit details, see note below. This ends the procedure.
  2. To replace the BPM, complete the following steps:
    1. The location code of the BPM is in the format Un-Px-Cx-Tx-Ex. Remove the -Tx-Ex portion of the location code to get the location code of the NVDIMM to which the failed BPM is connected.
    2. Find the physical locations of the NVDIMM, BPM cable, and BPM. For information about locations, see CEC enclosure location codes.
    3. Exit this procedure. Use the Exchange Parts menu to replace the BPM cable.

From the legacy service interface: Exchange parts > Exchange CEC components...

From the storage management GUI: Service > Exchange parts > Exchange CEC components....

For more information, refer to MAP1230 Replace a FRU without using a serviceable event. For information about part numbers, see Part numbers.

For exit details, see note below.

Attention: Ensure that you select the correct enclosure when using the Exchange Parts menu. This is Un (for example, U78D2.001.WZS03ED ) from the location code Un-Px-Cx... that is reported with symbolic FRU BPMFRU. Selecting the wrong enclosure might result in a customer impact.

    This ends the procedure.
