Checking final preparations

Before you begin

DANGER
HEAVY EQUIPMENT: PERSONAL INJURY OR EQUIPMENT DAMAGE MAY RESULT IF MISHANDLED (D006)

Procedure

  1. Verify that the customer has two redundant ac power sources for each pair of PDUs in the system that is being installed. Each PDU in a pair must be connected to a separate, independent power source.
    • Models A01, A05: 1 or 2 PDU pairs
    • Model E05: 1 or 2 PDU pairs
Important: To avoid a single point of failure, the frames require two independent power feeds. One power source feeding the power cords on the right side of the frame, and the other source feeding the power cords on the left side of the frame.
  2. Verify the customer wall circuit breaker. The customer wall circuit breaker rating that protects each line cord depends on the line cord connector rating for the feature ordered. See Table 1.
Table 1. Power cord features and associated breaker requirements
    Feature Breaker Line cord description
    AAS0 30A Single Phase Power - 208V 30A NEMA L6-30P
    AAS1 30A - 32A Single Phase Power - 250V 30A/32A IEC 60309
    AAS2 60A - 63A 3 Phase Delta Power - 200V-240V 60A/63A IEC 309 (4 pin 3+PE)
    AAS3 30A - 32A 3 Phase Wye Power - 380/220-415/240V (LL/LN) 30A/32A, IEC60309 (5 pin 3+N+PE)
    AAS4 32A Single Phase Power - 250V 32A, Australia/New Zealand
    AAS5 30A Single Phase Power - 250V 30A, Korea
    AAS6 30A - 32A Single Phase Power - 230V 30A/32A, halogen free IEC 60309
  3. If the storage facility will be installed on a raised floor:
    1. The maximum rack weight approaches 889 kilograms (1960 pounds) for model A05, 838 kilograms (1848 pounds) for model E05, and 855 kilograms (1885 pounds) for model A01. Have the customer verify that their floor has adequate support.
Note: For details on the rack weights, refer to the IBM® DS8000 Introduction and Planning Guide for your model.
    2. To correctly cool a rack, place a floor tile with air flow holes directly in the front of each rack.
    3. If the rack does not have features for overhead cable management of power or host cables, or both, place the appropriate floor cutouts under the rear tailgate.
    4. If the rack does have features for overhead cable management, floor cutouts are not required in the following cases.
    • Rack has feature AAV1 (top exit bracket for fibre cable), AND
    • Customer wants line cords routed through the top exit.
  4. If the storage facility will not be installed on a raised floor, ensure that the customer will provide adequate air flow and temperature around the storage facility.
    Notes:
    • For information about the temperature requirements of the operating environment, see the IBM DS8000 Introduction and Planning Guide for your model. The PDF is also available on the IBM DS8000 series Service Documents media.
    • The rack cooling airflow enters through the front cover and exits through the rear cover. The bottom of the DS8000® is sealed.
  5. Verify that the customer has ordered, supplied, and routed the following cables to the storage facility being installed.
Note: Routing of the customer cables must not be billed against the installation. If the customer wants the service representative to route the cables, that activity must be coded or billed separately.
    1. Fibre Channel host cables from the host to the storage facility host adapters.
    2. zHyperLink host cables (if zHyperLink is used) from the host to the storage facility I/O enclosures.
    3. An Ethernet LAN signal cable. This cable is required to connect the management console to the customer LAN. A second cable is needed if two management consoles will be connected to the customer LAN.
  6. Go to the next section.
