Exchange an Ethernet cable
Before you begin

Attention:
- This procedure is not a stand-alone procedure. Customer disruption and damage to the hardware might occur when microcode and power boundaries are not in the proper conditions for this service action.
- If a serviceable event FRU repair directed you to this procedure, the microcode and power boundaries are already set.
- If a serviceable event FRU repair did not direct you to this procedure, see MAP1230 Replace a FRU without using a serviceable event.
Notes:
- All the cables and FRUs to be removed must be uniquely identified so they can be reinstalled correctly.
- The replacement of the Ethernet switch is a manual process. There is no GUI code-driven process to manage the resource and help guide you through the repair.
- There are two private networks: "Gray" and "Black." One of the two networks must always be functional to all connected nodes.
- The private networks are automatically checked every few minutes by a microcode driven "heartbeat" communication process that checks HMC-to-CEC LPAR as well as HMC-to-HMC communications. A serviceable event is opened if a problem is found.
- There is an HMC GUI network topology tool that displays the CEC nodes and their "health" status. Running it does not cause a serviceable event to be created.
- There is not an HMC GUI tool to test the "health" of the intelligent power distribution units (iPDUs). Instead, MAP7202 Determining the network status of the iPDUs is used for testing.
Remove the Ethernet cable
Procedure
- If you do not know the location of both ends of the cable to be replace, refer to Display cable diagrams.
- Disconnect the Ethernet cable at both ends.
- Remove the cable retention hardware as needed and remove the cable from the rack.
