Troubleshooting information that is related to your DS8000 system includes: analyzing, verifying, understanding, managing, and handling various problems.

Current limitations
Known limitations exist for the DS8000 storage system.
DS8000 configuration limitations
Known configuration limitations exist for FlashCopy®, Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, z/OS® Global Mirror (XRC), and concurrent copy.
Refreshing the GUI cache
You can update the information that is displayed in the DS8000 Storage Management GUI by refreshing the browser cache.
Keyboard & Display
An unresponsive storage system display can be reset using a simple manual method.
Events list
The Events page displays all of the events that occur on the storage system, whether initiated by a user or by an internal process.
Remote event notifications
Remote event notifications feature is configured through the command-line interface or the Storage Management GUI. When configured, event notifications are sent to your remote servers to display specific event information in a prescribed format.
Identifying performance issues
If a job takes longer than usual to complete, you can use the graphs on the Performance page in the DS8000 Storage Management GUI to determine whether the DS8000 storage system is contributing to the performance issue. For example, the write cache might be full.
Fibre Channel port errors
Errors that occurred during transmission of data through Fibre Channel ports (also referred to as I/O ports) over the past 24 hours are displayed in the Error Rates for I/O Port window on the Network settings page.
Unlocking an administrator account
If your user role is administrator, you can unlock an administrative password. For example, there might be times when administrative users forget the password that they use to access the DS8000 Storage Management GUI.
Maintaining drives
A minimum of two spare drives are allocated in a device adapter loop.
Analyzing service information messages for IBM Z
Service information messages (SIMs) are generated by a storage system for IBM® Z hosts. Use the customization worksheets before installation to record the SIM severity level and the maximum number of times the storage system sends the SIMs to the console (0-5 times). During installation, you (or the IBM service representative) must enter this information into the system.
Understanding scope violation codes
Reason codes are returned to IBM Z hosts when an issued command results in a scope violation.
