Easy Tier settings

On the Easy Tier tab of the System settings page, you can configure Easy Tier® to improve performance by managing or monitoring provisioned capacity placement in pools. You can enable the allocation order that Easy Tier uses to select the drive classes when capacity is allocated in pools.

Easy Tier mode
Determines how Easy Tier monitors I/O activity and manages capacity:
Enabled
Monitor I/O activity for capacity and manage capacity placement within all pools.
Disabled
Do not monitor I/O activity for capacity or manage capacity placement.
Tiered pools only
Monitor I/O activity for capacity and manage capacity placement within pools that have arrays with different drive classes.
Monitor only
Monitor I/O activity for capacity but do not manage capacity placement.
Easy Tier Heat Map Transfer
Enables the Easy Tier Heat Map Transfer utility to maintain knowledge of I/O activity between a primary and secondary storage system. For more information, see http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/redp5015.html?Open.
Easy Tier allocation order
Determines the order in which drive classes are chosen when capacity is allocated in pools based on the following options.
High performance
Allocates data in drive classes in this order: Flash Tier 0, Flash Tier 1, Flash Tier 2.
High utilization
Allocates data in drive classes in this order: Flash Tier 1, Flash Tier 2, Flash Tier 0.
Easy Tier automatic mode acceleration
Select Enabled to double the maximum amount of data that Easy Tier can automatically migrate. This option might cause your existing workload to experience increased latency and decreased bandwidth while migration occurs.
Note: This option should be set to Disabled once the migration of data is complete.
