Removing the processor enclosure time-of-day battery (Models 92x, 93x)

Before you begin

Attention: DO NOT use this procedure to service an operating storage system. This procedure is to be used only to remove the processor enclosure, or CEC, time-of-day batteries from an inactive DS8000 system for recycling or reclamation. To service a BSM set in an active DS8000, refer to service documentation.

These instructions are for 2107 models 921, 922, 931, 932, 9A2, 9B2, and 2421/2422/2423/2424 models 931, 932, 9B2.

Removing the service processor card time-of-day battery

Procedure

  1. Remove the service processor card (P1-C8 see Figure 1).
    1. Press the thumb release  A  on the service processor card handle  B  and rotate the handle down to disengage the service processor card from the card slot.
      Note: Early hardware requires considerable downward force to unseat the card.
    2. Locate the T4 SPCN 1 connector on the service processor card. Directly to the right of it is the R1 (T3) cable. Unplug that cable so it will not block the removal of the service processor card.
    3. After the service processor card is disengaged from the card slot, use the handle to pull the service processor card from the enclosure.

  2. Locate and remove the time-of-day battery:
    1. Locate the battery on the service processor card.
    2. Remove the time-of-day battery  A  from the service processor card as shown in Figure 3.

  3. Install the service processor card.
    1. Ensure the service processor card handle is rotated to the down position.
    2. Slide the service processor card all the way into the card slot in the system enclosure.
    3. Press the thumb release on the service processor card handle and rotate the handle up to lock the service processor card into position.
