Power consumption and environmental information

When you are planning to meet the power requirements for the DS8A00 series, consider the power consumption and other environmental points of the storage system.

The power consumption and environmental information for the DS8A00 is provided in Table 1.
Table 1. Power consumption and environmental information for models A01, A05, and E05.
Measurement Unit of measure Base frame Expansion frame
Peak electric power 1, 2 Kilowatt (kW)
Model A01: ≤ 10.2
Model A05: ≤ 10.2
Model E05: ≤ 10.2
Thermal load British thermal units (BTU) per hour
≤ 34800
≤ 34800
Capacity of exhaust cubic meters per minute (cubic feet per minute or CFM)
44.2
(1500)
51.8
(1800)
Ground leakage current milliamperes (mA) < 26.1 < 26.1
Startup current amperes (A or amp) ≤ 100 ≤ 100
Startup current duration microseconds (μs or μsec) < 200 < 200
Notes:
  1. The values represent data obtained from typical systems, which are configured as follows:
    • Model A01, A05, or E05 that contains four fully configured High Performance Flash Enclosure Gen3 pair and 16 Fibre Channel adapters.
  2. All frames and configurations that are used in single-phase mode must not exceed 8 kVA.

Acoustic declaration

Table 2 describes the acoustic declaration information for the storage system.
Table 2. Acoustic declaration for fully configured storage system
Model Declared mean A-weighted sound power level, LWA,m (B) Declared mean A-weighted emission sound pressure level, LpA,m (dB) Statistical Adder for verification Kv (B)
Operating Idling Operating Idling Operating Idling
Model A01, and A05 8.3 8.3 76 76 0.3 0.3
Model E05 8.3 8.3 76 76 0.3 0.3
Notes:
  1. Declared level LWA,m is the mean A-weighted sound power level.
  2. Declared level LpA,m is the mean A-weighted sound pressure level computed as the arithmetic average of the measurements at the 1-meter bystander positions, or it is measured as the maximum 0.5-meter operator position at the front or rear face with the doors opened.
  3. The statistical adder for verification, Kv, is a quantity to be added to the declared mean A-weighted sound power level, LWA,m such that there will be a 95% probability of acceptance, when using the verification procedures of ISO 9296, if no more than 6.5% of the batch of new equipment has A-weighted sound power levels greater than (LWA,m + Kv).
  4. The quantity LWA,c (formerly called LWAd), can be computed from the sum of LWA,m and Kv.
  5. Measurements are made in conformance with ISO 7779 and declared in conformance with ISO 9296.
  6. B, dB, abbreviations for bels and decibels, respectively. 1 B = 10 dB.
  7. Under certain environments, configurations, system settings and/or workloads, fan speeds are increased resulting in higher noise levels.
Notice: Government regulations (such as those prescribed by OSHA or European Community Directives) may govern noise level exposure in the workplace and may apply to you and your server installation. The actual sound pressure levels in your installation depend upon a variety of factors, including the number of racks in the installation; the size, materials, and configuration of the room where you designate the racks to be installed; the noise levels from other equipment; the room ambient temperature, and employees' location in relation to the equipment. Further, compliance with such government regulations also depends upon a variety of additional factors, including the duration of employees' exposure and whether employees wear hearing protection. IBM recommends that you consult with qualified experts in this field to determine whether you are in compliance with the applicable regulations.
