Configuring a remote support connection

Configure a remote-support connection (RSC) that enables the storage system to use the call home feature to report failures and transmit pertinent debugging data to IBM®. When call home is used, your technical support representative can quickly isolate and resolve potential issues with the storage system.

Remote support must be ready at the time of the initial installation of the DS8000®. It is tested as part of the verification process that the installation is complete and ready for customer use. For internet-based remote support, you must open your firewalls.

You can use either the DS8000 Storage Management GUI or DS CLI to configure a remote support connection.

DS8000 Storage Management GUI
To configure a remote support connection from the DS8000 Storage Management GUI, complete the following steps:
  1. Click Support, and then click Remote Support Connection to open the Remote Support Center tab.
  2. Select a Connection and Connection Type.
  3. Enter the addresses of the IBM Service Systems RSC servers that can connect to your storage system.
  4. Select options such the Access code and the Log file debug mode.
  5. Click Save.
DS CLI
To configure a remote support connection from the DS CLI, use the chaccess command.
For example, to enable a remote support connection on HMC 1, use the following command:
chaccess -rsc enable -hmc 1
