About messages
The storage system issues two types of messages from its interfaces and supporting software. The message identifier indicates the type of message and the reporting source of the message.
Messages that are displayed by the storage system are identified according to the following types:
- Informational messages are identified by the letter I at the end of the message identifier. Message type I informs about activities as they take place. For example, an informational message might report that a volume was successfully created. No user action is necessary.
- Warning messages are identified by the letter W at the end of the message identifier. Message type W warns that activities might have consequences that you do not anticipate. Warning messages normally provide the opportunity to continue a task or to cancel it.
- Error messages are identified by the letter E at the end of the message identifier. Message type E indicates that an error occurred. The message includes an action to help resolve the problem.
Messages that are displayed by the storage system are also identified according to the following reporting sources:
- DS Storage Management message identifiers are prefixed by the letters CMUG.
- Storage management console server message identifiers are prefixed by the letters CMUN.
For scripting, the message identifier remains constant in content and position. The remainder of the message is subject to change without notification. Do not use any portion of the message other than the message identifier for customer defined scripts.
