Moving workloads when migrating data between storage systems

You must use Global Copy or Metro Mirror to move workloads when you migrate data between storage systems.

Procedure

Complete the following process to move workloads between storage systems.

  1. Establish paths between all Site A LSSs and the Site B LSSs.
  2. Establish all necessary volume pairs between the Site A storage systems and the Site B storage systems. You can use either Global Copy or Metro Mirror.

If you use Global Copy, convert the pairs to IBM® Metro Mirror after the bulk copy is complete.

  3. Ensure that all remote mirror and copy volumes are in duplex state.
  4. Quiesce all of the applications.
  5. End all remote mirror and copy pairs across all ESSs.
  6. End all remote mirror and copy paths.
  7. Establish remote mirror and copy paths from the Site B storage systems to the Site A storage systems.
  8. Establish all Metro Mirror pairs from the Site B storage systems to the Site A storage systems.
  9. Suspend all remote mirror and copy pairs. This action causes the storage systems to maintain a changed-track bitmap for all suspended remote mirror and copy primary volumes.
  10. Resume all the Site A applications that use the Site B storage systems disks.
  11. Resume all the Site A applications that use the Site A storage systems disks.
