You can remove an
IBM Z
host from
a DS8000 storage
system by removing the elements of the storage configuration that are connected to the
host.
Before you begin
Ensure that the host is no longer sending I/O to the volumes
on the storage system before you begin this task.Because this procedure
deletes the configuration between the host and the storage system,
export and save the current configuration before you begin, so that
it can be restored if needed.
Procedure
Complete the following steps to remove an
IBM Z
host.
-
Remove any Copy Services relationships from the volumes that are mapped to the host. This step
must be completed by using the DS command-line interface (DS CLI).
- Delete the volumes that were mapped to the host by using
the Delete action on the Volumes page.
- If no other hosts are using the count key data (CKD) logical
subsystems (LSSs) that were used by the host, delete the LSSs by using
the Delete action on the Volumes
by LSS page.
When an LSS is deleted, the aliases associated with the LSS are also
deleted.
Note: LSS
is synonymous with logical control unit (LCU) and subsystem identification (SSID).
- If the pools that the volumes were in are now empty, you
can delete them by using the Delete action
on the Arrays by Pool page.
When pools
are deleted, the arrays are automatically unassigned and formatted.
When an array is formatted, the RAID level and storage type are unconfigured
and secure erase removes all data from the drives in the array.
What to do next
After you remove the host from the storage system, you might
need to update the host or the fabric. For more information, see your
host system documentation.
