Increasing storage capacity

You can add capacity to the storage system by ordering more drives and updating the operating environment license (OEL).

Before you begin

After an IBM service representative installs the new drives, new arrays are displayed in the Unassigned Arrays row in the Arrays by Pool table of the DS8000 Storage Management GUI.

1. After new drives are installed, assign the new arrays to a pool by using the Assign action in the Arrays by Pool table.
2. If the pool is not managed by Easy Tier®, redistribute volumes within the pool by selecting the Redistribute check box.
