Increasing I/O capacity

You can add I/O capacity to the storage system by increasing the number of host adapters in the system.

Before you begin

For information about ordering new host adapters, see the online product documentation about I/O adapter features.

After an IBM service representative installs the host adapters, the new I/O ports are displayed on the System page of the DS8000 Storage Management GUI.

Procedure

  1. After new host adapters are installed, configure the protocols of the new I/O ports, by using the Modify I/O Port Protocols action on the System page.
  2. Connect the I/O ports to the storage area network (SAN).
  3. Update zoning configurations for the SAN by using the Modify I/O Port Mask action on the Hosts page of the DS8000 Storage Management GUI.
  4. Your host system might require additional configuration to communicate with the new I/O ports. See the online product documentation about configuring hosts.
