Rules for ordering licensed functions
A Base Function license is required for every base frame.
For all licensed functions, you can combine feature codes to order the exact capacity that you need. For example, if you require 160 TB of capacity, order 10 of feature code BAA0 (10 TB each up to 100 TB capacity) and 4 of feature code BAA1 (15 TB each, for an extra 60 TB.
If you order the Copy Services license, you must order the Copy Services license for the provisioned capacity of all of the volumes that will be used for the Copy Services relationships.
When you calculate raw capacity, consider the capacity across the entire storage system, including the base frame and any expansion frames. To calculate the raw capacity, use the following table to determine the total size of each regular drive feature in your storage system, and then add all the values.
Drive sizes | Total raw capacity | Drives per feature |
---|---|---|
1.6 TB NVMe drives | 25.6 TB | 16 |
1.9 TB NVMe drives | 30.4 TB | 16 |
3.8 TB NVMe drives | 60.8 TB | 16 |
7.6 TB NVMe drives | 121.6 TB | 16 |
4.8 TB FlashCore Modules ( FCM) | 76.8 TB | 16 |
9.6 TB FCM | 153.6 TB | 16 |
19.2 TB FCM | 307.2 TB | 16 |
Rules for removing a licensed function
The initial enablement of any optional DS8000 licensed function is a concurrent activity (assuming that the appropriate level of microcode is installed on the machine for the specific function). The removal of a DS8000 licensed function is a nondisruptive activity but takes effect at the next machine IML.
- Order an inactive or disabled license and replace the active license activation key with the new inactive license activation key at the IBM® Entitled Systems Support (ESS) website.
- Go to the ESS website and change the assigned value from the current number of terabytes (TB) to 0 TB. This value, in effect, makes the feature inactive. If this change is made, you can go back to ESS and reactivate the feature, up to the previously purchased level, without having to repurchase the feature.
Regardless of which method is used, the deactivation of a licensed function is a nondisruptive activity, but takes effect at the next machine IML.
