Multi-Target PPRC software considerations
There are software considerations for a Multi-Target PPRC environment.
To use Multi-Target PPRC, function indicator 0745 and feature code 7025 must be activated on your systems that will support the function. DFSMS software checks the function indicator (0745) set by the DEVSUPxx PARMLIB member.
Also required is support from software that controls PPRC functions, such as (GDPS®), HyperSwap®, and Tivoli® Storage Productivity Center for Replication (TPC-R) to handle failure situations.
For information on TPC-R, including HyperSwap, see IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center for Replication for System z® Version 5.2.3 User’s Guide and the IBM® Tivoli Storage Productivity Center online product documentation.
Software requirements and guidelines include, but are not limited
to:
- Management software (such as GDPS and TPC-R) requires that all systems be upgraded to support the function. Otherwise, the function is in single target mode. After systems are upgraded, update your DEVSUPxx member of PARMLIB to indicate that Multi-Target PPRC mode is supported by using keyword, PPRCMT.
- Support is provided through SPEs z/OS® (including DFSMS), ICKDSF, z/VM®, and management software (GDPS, TPC-R).
- Updated queries support multiple secondaries for a Metro Mirror primary volume. If you use the ANTRQST PQUERY command, you need to convert to a new FORMAT mapping macro. A keyword in the DEVSUPxx member of PARMLIB is provided to enable the new function. If it is not set, it retains existing recovery states for cascading PPRC environments.
