Rolling upgrade to a newer version

Follow these tasks to upgrade to a recent release.

Important: IBM® Operational Decision Manager for z/OS® is now Decision Runtime for z/OS. To upgrade to an older version of Operational Decision Manager for z/OS, see the documentation for that version in the IBM Operational Decision Manager documentation External link opens a new window or tab.

These tasks are for version 8.11.0 or newer. No rolling upgrade to 9.6.0 or later is supported from a version earlier than 8.11.0. You can migrate from earlier versions, but you cannot keep your system running during the upgrade. For more information, see Upgrading from a previous version of Operational Decision Manager for z/OS.

The rolling upgrade does not include the testing and simulation features. Stop using these features before the rolling upgrade begins, and do not use them while the rolling upgrade is in progress to prevent two versions of the Scenario Service Provider from existing on the same node. You must deploy the testing and simulation archive for the target version after the rolling upgrade is completed.

When you upgrade from 8.11.0 or a newer version to 9.6.0 or later, in-place upgrading of the Rule Execution Server and Decision Warehouse databases is not necessary because the schemas in these databases are compatible between the versions. However, the provided database schema uses Universal Table Spaces (UTS). If you want to benefit from UTS, you must recreate the databases by using the Java™ Class Library that is included in the target version.

Decision Runtime for z/OS V9.6.0 uses Java 21.
