Developing client applications

You must create a client application to execute rules on zRule Execution Server for z/OS and Rule Execution Server.

Workflow for developing applications
To develop and run a z/OS® application (COBOL or PL/I application) that executes rulesets on zRule Execution Server for z/OS, add API calls to the z/OS application to connect to the server, execute rulesets, and disconnect from the server. Then include an API stub in your load module to resolve the API calls to the external libraries.
Deploying RuleApps and XOMs
To execute Operational Decision Manager rules on zRule Execution Server for z/OS, you must deploy RuleApps and XOMs that have the necessary Java™ classes to the persistence layer. If you deploy them to a shared persistence layer, zRule Execution Server for z/OS and Rule Execution Server instances can execute the same rules.
Adding API calls to a z/OS client application
To enable a z/OS application (COBOL or PL/I application) to execute rulesets on zRule Execution Server for z/OS, you must include calls to the necessary APIs.
Resolving API calls from z/OS clients statically
Resolve the zRule Execution Server for z/OS API calls in your z/OS application (COBOL or PL/I application) by including an API stub in your load module.
Resolving API calls from z/OS clients dynamically
Instead of link-editing the Operational Decision Manager API stub program with your object code, you can dynamically call the stub from within your program. This can increase the portability of your program as you are able to use the same program in batch, IMS, and CICS® environments without link-editing the program again.
Enabling applications to call zRule Execution Server for z/OS
To call a deployed ruleset, add API calls to your z/OS application (COBOL or PL/I application) to connect to zRule Execution Server for z/OS, execute the ruleset, and disconnect from the server. Then, add an API stub to your load module to resolve the API calls to external libraries.
Calling zRule Execution Server for z/OS from a Db2 Stored Procedure
You can execute rulesets on zRule Execution Server for z/OS® from a z/OS application (COBOL or PL/I application) that runs as a Db2® Stored Procedure.
Optional: Adding API calls to a z/OS client application to send batched requests
Instead of sending a single set of parameters, you can send a batch of parameters from a COBOL client application to the zRule Execution Server for z/OS.
