Tutorial - Accessing MCP server from Developer Portal

You can view the available MCP servers from the Asset gallery page.

  1. Expand Manage from the left menu, click Assets and select the catalog where the MCP server is published.
  2. Click Catalog settings > Portal, and copy the Portal endpoint URL.
  3. Sign in to Developer Portal using the Portal endpoint URL.
  4. Click Asset gallery from the left navigation pane.

    The Asset gallery page lists all published assets in the Developer Portal.

  5. In the Add slicer filter, choose Type, and select MCPServer.

    The asset gallery page lists only MCP server assets.

  6. Select an MCP server.
    The MCP server page displays the following sections:
    • Introduction - Displays the MCP icon and version.
    • MCP tools - Lists the MCP tools. Each tool displays their name, description, and Input schema.
    • Plans - Displays the default plan associated with the MCP server.
    • Documentation - Displays the list of documents available for the MCP server.
  7. Click Plans and subscribe to the default plan.

    An application is created in API Manager and appears under Applications in Developer Portal.

  8. From the MCP server page, click Install MCP server.
    1. In the Install MCP server dialog box:
      • Clients. Select VS Code as the client to install the MCP server.
      • MCP endpoints. Select the required MCP endpoint to register with the MCP client.
      • Click Install.
    2. When prompted, click Open Visual Studio Code, and click Install to complete the setup.
    Installing the MCP server registers it with the selected MCP client. AI agents running in that client can then discover and invoke the MCP tools according to the applied plans and policies.

Monitor analytics for MCP usage

  1. In API Manager, click Analytics in the left navigation pane.
  2. Expand Dashboards and click MCP.

    The MCP usage dashboard provides visibility into who is using your MCP services the most, total MCP requests, and prompt counts. This dashboard shows the MCP event data at the scope of provider organization and catalog.
