Getting started with Databand alerting
When you integrate pipelines or data warehouses with Databand, you can create alerts to notify your team of irregularities or issues with your data, so you can quickly resolve them.
Complete the following steps to get started with Databand alerting.
Defining alerts
To create alerts in Databand:
- In the Databand UI, click Alerts > Add alert.
- Select your Alert type, then define your alert by choosing an Asset type and providing any required information. Click Next.
- Select an Alert severity, provide a name, choose whether to provide a description for your alert, and then click Save alert.
- Optional: Choose existing receivers and collaborators, or create new ones. Receivers and collaborators can be changed at any time through the Alerts page of the Databand UI.
You can now view your saved alert in the Alerts page of the Databand UI. For more information about specific alert types, see Alert definitions.
Creating receivers
To get notifications about your alerts, you must set up receivers. You can add receivers in the Alerts page of the Databand UI, or as part of creating an alert.
To add a receiver:
- Click Add receiver then choose your Receiver type.
- Provide the required information. All receivers require a Receiver name, but other necessary information, such as an email address or Slack or Teams channel, depends on the type of receiver that you are creating.
- Complete any optional steps, if you choose, then click Next.
- Choose the alerts that you want to be notified about through this receiver, then click Save.
Now, you have an active alert and a receiver that is prepared to notify you about any irregularities with your data. For more information about specific receiver types, see Alert receivers.
Resolving alerts
- Click See alert details in the notification that you received.
- go to the Alerts page and in the Open tab, hover over the alert and then click View details.
By clicking View details, you can see information about the alert such as:
- The time the alert was triggered
- Trend graphs
- The affected datasets or pipelines
- Failed tasks and dataset logs
To confirm that you saw the triggered alert, click Mark acknowledged.
After you acknowledge the alert, you can go to your data source and fix the issue that triggered your alert. When the issue is fixed, return to the Databand UI and click Mark resolved.
