Creating tasks in BPMN diagrams
A task is an activity within a business process such as
a user, a business rule, or a service that is performed.
Procedure
- In the Palette, under Task, click a type of task.
- User: Represents an activity that is performed by a human with the help of an application.
- Business Rule: Represents an activity that uses a business engine rule.
- Service: Represents an activity that uses a service to perform a task.
- Manual: Represents an activity that is performed without the aid of any business process execution engine or any application.
- Send: Represents an activity that is designed to send a message to an external Participant.
- Receive: Represents an activity that is designed to wait for a message to arrive from an external Participant.
- Script: Represents an activity that is designed to be executed by a business process engine.
- Click in the diagram to insert the task.
- In the Properties view, on the General page, click the plus sign (+) or ellipsis (...) button to create a new operation or select an existing one.
- To add an In message, click the plus sign (+) or ellipsis (...) button to create a new or select an existing message.
- To create a structure, click the plus sign or ellipsis button to create a structure or select an existing one.
- In the structure details, click the ellipsis button.
- In the Select Type dialog box, specify either an XSD or UML model.
- Click OK.
- To add an Out message, repeat steps 4 through 8.
