Manually removing cartridges

It is recommended that you return the drive and tape to IBM or your service provider for removal and recovery.

Important: The manual procedures must be completed by a trained IBM® service provider. The procedures for manually removing cartridges carry a high risk of damaging the drive and high risk of not being able to recover the data.
For a stuck cartridge:
  • Try to eject the tape with host commands.
  • Try to power cycle the drive to eject the tape.
If the cartridge does not eject and the customer wants the cartridge Contact IBM support to discuss how to return the drive with the cartridge that is still installed for cartridge/data recovery.
