Using Feature Code 1853 in the frame

Feature Code (FC) 1853 provides 1 Power Distribution Unit (PDU) that is installed at the bottom of the frame, to power the IBM® Diamondback tape library.

The library is powered with FC 1853. This feature code provides one PDU. If you want redundant power, then a second PDU, as the examples show, an extra FC1853 must be ordered.

Figure 1 shows a library that is powered by using 2 PDUs which is installed at the bottom of Frame. The power cables route into the frame from the bottom  1  then up the side  2 . The power supplies  3  are connected to different PDUs. It does not matter which PDU powers either of the power supplies, so long as each power supply is connected to a different PDU, so that the library does not lose power if one PDU fails.

You must order FC9989 or FC9990 (power cords for connecting two PDUs to two power supplies) for all the powered frames that attach to the PDU.

The PDU requires two 200-240 vac power receptacles and a 30 amp circuit breaker. You must specify the feature codes for the proper power cord type for their geographic location. The power cord feature codes that are used with FC1853 are FC9954 through 9959, and 9966.

Referring to Figure 2, you can power adjacent libraries from the PDU located at the bottom of one library. Specify FC 9989  1  for each adjacent library that will be powered.
