Installing CDC for VSAM or IMS on IBM Z

IBM® InfoSphere® Classic CDC for z/OS® (CDC) is the replication engine for VSAM and IMS data sources.

About this task

IBM InfoSphere Classic CDC for z/OS comes in several SMP/E installation packages. Install InfoSphere Classic CDC Unique and depending on the data sources that you want to use, one or both of the data-source-specific packages if they need to be installed ( InfoSphere Data Replication for IMS or InfoSphere Data Replication for VSAM). The FMIDs of the packages for an installation on IBM Z are:

InfoSphere Classic CDC Unique
FMID: JABIB3H
InfoSphere Data Replication for IMS for z/OS
FMID: JABIB3I

See InfoSphere IMS Replication for z/OS Version 11.3.0

InfoSphere Data Replication for VSAM for z/OS
FMID: JABIB3K

See InfoSphere Data Replication for VSAM for z/OS 11.3.0

You also need to install Classic Data Architect on a Microsoft Windows computer. Classic Data Architect is required to create mappings that convert your VSAM or IMS data to relational tables. The tables can then be picked up by Data Gate for watsonx. Data Gate for watsonx replicates the data and stores it in object storage buckets with corresponding Apache Iceberg catalogs in watsonx.data. For instructions on how to install Classic Data Architect, see Installing the Classic Data Architect.

For installation instructions, see Product documentation for InfoSphere Classic Data Replication and Federation solutions for z/OS, Versions 11.3, 11.1.

Note: As you follow the documentation for IBM InfoSphere Classic CDC for z/OS, you can skip the section titled Configuring replication in Management Console because the tasks described there are completed from the Data Gate for watsonx user interface.
