Running a Web UI test on the VMWare cloud
To apply load to a Web UI test in a private cloud, ideally before the application under
test goes live, you can run the test on the VMWare cloud.
Before you begin
- Install IBM® Rational® Performance Tester and IBM Rational Functional Tester in the same package group.
- Ensure that you have an IBM ID.
- Ensure that you have a trial promotional code. See About Promotional code and Subscription ID.
- If your load test needs more than 10 virtual users for a Web UI test, see Optimizing Web UI load testing for scalability.
About this task
A Web UI test is run on the IBM Rational Performance Tester Cloud Manager and is charged according to the number of Web UI-Hours that the test ran. For information about how to get started, see About Promotional code and Subscription ID.
Procedure
- Download the workbench and agent templates and import them to the VMWare vCenter server. See https://rptcloudmgr.rational.ibmcloud.com/vmware/.
- Create a local schedule, add the Web UI test, and run it. To create a schedule, see Creating a VU Schedule. To run the schedule, see Running tests from a schedule. The cost of running a cloud schedule depends on the number of VU-Hours and/or Web UI-Hours that the schedule runs. So, consider running the local schedule with the default 5 users to fix any errors before scaling up the load to run on the cloud.
- To run the schedule on a private cloud such as VMWare ESXi, in IBM Rational Performance Tester, create a location template. See Creating location templates for VMware.
- Connect to the cloud manager. See Connecting to the VMware server.
- Create a cloud schedule. See Creating a cloud VU Schedule.
- Run the cloud schedule. See Running a cloud VU Schedule.
