Connecting to the DevOps Velocity MCP server in Claude Desktop

You can connect to the Measure Model Context Protocol (MCP) server by using the Claude Desktop application to interact with Velocity and retrieve the necessary data and insights.

You must have completed the following tasks:

Installed Velocity and configured Key cloak. See Prerequisites to connect with the MCP server in Measure.
Configured OIDC authentication in Velocity. See Authenticating users with OpenID Connect (OIDC)
Obtained the MCP Server URL. For example: https://<velocity_hostname>/mcp
Ensured that Claude Desktop is installed.

Open the Claude Desktop application.
Navigate to Settings > Connectors.
Click Add custom connector.
The Add custom connector window is displayed.
Enter the name of the connector. For example: Velocity MCP server
Enter the Velocity MCP server URL in the Remote MCP server URL field.
Click Add.
The MCP server is now added and listed on the Connectors page.
Click the Connect button next to the newly added Velocity MCP server entry.

Claude Desktop redirects you to the DevOps Loop login page.
Sign in using the Velocity OIDC user credentials.

A consent screen is displayed requesting access to MCP tools, Velocity APIs that are used internally for tool execution, and basic profile and role information.
Click Yes to approve and complete the connection.

After successful authentication, Claude Desktop displays the list of available MCP tools provided by the Velocity MCP Server.

Note: The MCP server times out after 30 minutes of inactivity. If no tool calls occur during this period, your session expires and you are required to re-authenticate.

You have successfully connected to the Velocity MCP server by using Claude Desktop.

You can run prompts related to Velocity to confirm a successful connection.
