Autocomment

You can use the autocomment feature to automatically insert a small comment on each line that you change while editing a file in the editor. Using this feature, you can customize the content of the comment, as well as the appearance of the comment.

For example, you can track changes in a source file by inserting a comment on a line each time that it is modified. This comment can include custom details such as a defect number and the initials of the person that modified this line.

You can use the autocomment feature to:
  • Turn on autocomment for each file that you want to edit.
  • Use different comments for each file that you want to edit.

The autocomment options are organized into language profiles; each language profile has default settings based on the language of the file that you are editing. For example, if you are editing an Assembler file with the z Systems® LPEX Editor, the language profile for High Level Assembler (and all of the options associated with that language profile) is used. Each file can only use one language profile.

The autocomment feature provides seven language profiles. You can use any of these default language profiles, customize an existing language profile by modifying the options for that profile, or create your own language profile.
