Excluding and including records

Excluded records are one or more records that are temporarily removed from the view of the editor. The number of excluded records are shown in a shadow line.

About this task

The shadow line is displayed in the location of the hidden records. The following screen capture shows a shadow line where five records are excluded from view. You can have multiple locations where records are hidden and a shadow line is displayed for each hidden group. Shadow lines can be removed from view.

Excluding records

You can temporarily remove records from view by using the Exclude Record(s) feature. Records that are excluded are identified as a shadow line.

About this task

Excluding records is a method of data hiding that can be helpful when you are searching a data set. If you know that specific records can be excluded from the search, you can exclude them from the view to avoid any mixed search results. Records that are excluded from the data set are displayed as a shadow line and are only excluded during that particular editor session. When the edit session ends, all records that were previously excluded become visible again the next time the data set is opened under similar conditions.

Procedure

  1. Select one or more records within a data set o be excluded and right-click.
  2. Select Exclude Record(s).

  1. Within the Data Editor, right-click to open the menu and select Include Record(s).
  2. Click one or more checkboxes to include the records back into view.
  3. Click OK.
