Tips on using the user interface

The user interface is robust, and with it, you can complete many functions. These tips can help you become proficient with the user interface.

  • To customize the layout and content of any perspective, drag it to the location that you want on the user interface.
  • To close a view that you are not using, click X on the view tab. Closing a view does not modify or delete any of its content. To open a closed view, click Window (on Windows) or IBM® Developer for z/OS® (on macOS) > Show View.
  • To maximize the viewing area of a view, double-click its title. This action is especially useful for the z Systems® LPEX Editor and the Job Entry Subsystem (JES). To restore the viewing area to the original size, double-click the view title again.
  • You can access keyboard shortcuts for many menu items and window functions. Look for keyboard shortcuts on menus. After you become more familiar with the user interface, you might find that you can rely less on the mouse and use the keyboard for accomplishing more tasks:
