Using CARMA Fields Table view

The CARMA Fields Table View can be used to display a single level of the CARMA hierarchy. For each type of CARMA element that is displayed, different properties or fields are provided in columns.

Types of CARMA Content Displayed

The properties that are displayed in the CARMA Fields Table View depend on the type of CARMA element open in the view. For example, RAM items are displayed with the RAM ID, RAM version, RAM level, description, and refresh time provided as fields. Repository instances and CARMA content have field information that is retrieved from each member. For individual CARMA members, fields are provided based on the RAM as CARMA Developers can customize the information that is retrieved for members.

Navigation in CARMA Fields Table View

Only one level of the CARMA hierarchy is active at a time in the CARMA Fields Table View; however, you can navigate through different levels using the following controls.
  • To navigate down into a CARMA item one level, either double-click the item or right-click the item and select Go into.
  • To navigate up the hierarchy one level, click the Go Up action on the toolbar.
  • To navigate to the previous level, click the backward button.
  • To expand and view CARMA items below the active level, select the arrow to the left of the CARMA item to expand the item.
To view the children of the currently active level, select the arrow icon, . This expands the currently active level and display the children of the CARMA item.

Sorting CARMA Items

CARMA items in the CARMA Fields Table View can be sorted according to the fields listed. Sorting is based on the following constraints:
  • Sorting is done by selecting the column header for a particular field. The first sort is ascending. The second sort is descending.
  • Sorting is done based on a comparison of the string value for the selected field.
  • Sorting output conforms to any predefined filters. Any CARMA items that do not fall within defined filters are not displayed in sorting output.
  • Sorting maintains the tree structure of the CARMA Fields Table View. Sorting is performed at the currently active level. Any expanded children are not sorted.
  • Sorting is done only on the selected column header. For any CARMA items that have the same field value; there is no additional sort; they are returned in their original order.

Customizing the CARMA Fields Table View

The columns in the CARMA Fields Table View can be customized by reordering, resizing, or hiding. Any customization that is done is saved on a per RAM basis. If you customize any column, at the RAM level, then the same customization persists after navigating into the containers and members within the RAM.

You can reorder columns by selecting, dragging, and dropping the column in the new location. Any column can be reordered except for the CARMA Resources column, which always remains in column 1. If you attempt to reorder a column before the CARMA Resources column, it will automatically be placed in column 2, after CARMA Resources.

If new columns are added to the host configuration, then these updates are reflected in one of two ways. If the CARMA Fields Table View is customized by reordering the columns, then these new columns appear at the end. Otherwise, the new columns are added so that they maintain the same order as the host.

You can resize columns by dragging the edges either in to make the column narrower, or out to make the column wider. Resizing a column to width 0 is the same as hiding the column. You can resize any column to any size except for the CARMA Resources column, which cannot be resized to width 0.

Alternatively, to hide, restore, and reorder columns you can use the Customize Table window.

If you want to reset the CARMA Fields Table View back to the original, default settings, select the Reset Table action from the view menu. This restores all hidden columns and return any customized ordering back to the default.
