Activating and inactivating a profile

A profile must be activated to trigger z/OS® Debugger in debug mode or code coverage mode when the resources defined in the profile appear. You can activate and inactivate a profile from the z/OS Debugger Profiles view.

Activating a profile for debug

About this task

Note: Only one CICS profile per user can be active in a CICS region. Only one non-CICS or IMS Isolation profile can be active on a z/OS system per user. IMS Isolation profiles are only available in IBM® Developer for z/OS Enterprise Edition.

Procedure

To activate z/OS Debugger in debug mode for a profile, use one of the following ways:

  • Right-click the profile and select Activate for Debug from the menu.
  • Select the profile and press M1+D1.
  • Click in the Active Mode column and select Activate for Debug from the drop-down list.

    The debug daemon is automatically started if it is not running when a profile is activated.

    When you activate a debug profile, if Debug Manager is not detected, the port used by the debug daemon is automatically detected. If the daemon is running on both secured and unsecured ports, you will be prompted to select which port to use because only one port can be used to activate a debug profile.

    Activating an IMS Isolation profile registers the transactions that were checked in the profile, and starts the private region, if it is not yet started.

Activating a profile for code coverage

To activate z/OS Debugger in code coverage mode for a profile, use one of the following ways:

  • Right-click the profile and select Activate for Code Coverage from the menu.
  • Select the profile and press M1+M2+C1.
  • Click in the Active Mode column and select Activate for Code Coverage from the drop-down list.

    Activating an IMS Isolation profile registers the transactions that were checked in the profile, and starts the private region, if it is not yet started.

Inactivating a profile

Procedure

To prevent z/OS Debugger from being triggered, inactivate the profile in one of the following ways:

  • Right-click the profile and select Inactivate from the menu.
  • Select the profile and press M1+I1.

    By default, profiles are automatically inactivated when you shut down the workbench or when the Remote System Explorer connection associated with the profiles disconnects. You can change the setting in IBM z/OS Debugger preferences.

    1. M1 is the COMMAND key on macOS, and the Ctrl key on most other platforms. M2 is the SHIFT key.

    Inactivating an IMS Isolation profile deregisters the transactions that were checked in the profile, and stops the private region.
