Performing actions against a resource

You can perform actions against CICSPlex® SM or CICS® resources when you are connected to a CICS version 4 or later system, using the CICS Explorer®. The actions you can perform are dependent on the resource selected.

Before you begin

Some actions can only be performed against multiple resources if all resources are available. Some resources in your selection might not be available, for example, if you have 1500 transaction definitions and select them all, some of the resources might not be available, in which case some of the actions in the menu might be disabled. You should select a smaller range of resources, for example, restrict your selection to only those resources displayed in the view.

About this task

For full details of the actions, see the CICS Transaction Server for z/OS® documentation. This task describes how to perform the actions using the CICS Explorer.

Procedure

  1. Open or select the view containing the resource to perform an action against. Some actions are available only in the CICSplex Explorer view.
  2. Right-click the resource selection to display the menu. You can select multiple resources using the shift or Ctrl keys.
  3. Select the action to perform. Some actions may require additional parameters. If this is the case, the menu contains a second level and the correct parameter must be selected on this level.

Results

The Perform Operation dialog is displayed showing the action and the resource selected. Click OK to perform the action. If the action fails a message is displayed in the Perform Action dialog.

If the action is against more than one resource, the actions are performed sequentially, and the Perform Operation dialog shows the status as each action is completed. If one of the actions fails, an error message is displayed and the failing object is identified in the Perform Operation dialog. Execution stops at the failing object. You must correct the error and restart the operation at the failing point.

If the action is successful, the dialog closes and a message is displayed in the workbench status bar.
