Integrating document plug-ins using software updates

You can use the software updates function in the CICS® Explorer to install document plug-ins.

About this task

This example task shows you how to integrate document plug-ins using the software update function in the CICS Explorer. You must know the Web site address (URL) or local file system location of the update site containing the plug-ins.
Note: The URL for an update site is a special URL and is not the same URL used to view an information center.

Procedure

  1. Click Help > Software Updates on the menu bar.
  2. Click Available Software.
  3. Click Add Site.
  4. In the Add Site dialog, specify the location of the update site using one of the following choices:
    • If the update site is located on the Web, type the Web site address (URL) of the update site into the text box. You can also paste or drag a URL from a Web browser.
    • If the update site is in your local file system, including a CD, click Local and select the directory location of the site.
    • If the update site is in your local file system but is packaged as a jar or zip file, click Archive to locate and select the name of the file.
  5. Click OK. The update site is added to the list of available software. A plus icon (an arrow on Linux) indicates that the site has more than one plug-in.
  6. Select one or more plug-ins to integrate using one of the following choices. Be aware that the plug-ins might be very large and take a long time to download.
    • Select the top-level check box to install all the plug-ins at the site.
    • Click the plus icon (an arrow on Linux) to expand the tree and show all plug-ins at the site. Select one or more plug-ins to download.
  7. Click Install.
  8. If the selected items have license agreements to be reviewed, you must click Next. Carefully review the license agreements for the updated items. If the terms of all these licenses are acceptable, select I accept the terms in the license agreements. Do not proceed to download the items if the license terms are not acceptable.
  9. If the license agreements are acceptable, or if the selected items do not have license agreements to review, click Finish. The download and installation of the updates begins.
  10. Some of the items might be digitally signed by the company that provides them. Using the digital signature, you can verify more easily that the features and plug-ins that are about to be downloaded and installed are coming from a trusted supplier. You might be prompted to verify digitally signed content when the signature is detected. Warning: Because of the possibility of harmful or even malicious software, download software only from parties that you trust.
  11. When all the software is downloaded successfully and the necessary files installed into the product, you are prompted to restart CICS Explorer. Click Yes when asked to exit and restart the Workbench for the changes to take effect.

Results

When the CICS Explorer® restarts, the newly integrated documentation is displayed in the Help Contents. When you perform a search, any results found in the integrated documentation are displayed as well as results in the CICS Explorer documentation.
