Choosing an editor
Several editors are available for you to use. You can select an editor according to the source type and editor features.
- The COBOL Editor is the default editor for COBOL files.
- The JCL Editor is the default editor for JCL files.
- The PL/I Editor is the default editor for PL/I files.
- The Remote C/C++ Editor is the default editor for C and C++ files.
- The Remote Makefile Editor is the default for makefiles.
- The REXX Editor is the default editor for REXX files.
- The z Systems® LPEX Editor is the default editor for Assembler files.
To open a file with either the default editor or an assigned editor, double-click the file. To choose an alternative editor from the list of appropriate editors for the file type, right-click the file and select Open With.
After you open a file with an editor, subsequent edit sessions with the file use the same editor until you change editors. You can also change the default editor that is associated with any particular file extension.
The following table lists the available editors and the source type that is supported by
each.
