These topics in this section explain the concepts behind
the CICS Explorer®.
CICS Explorer
CICS Explorer is
an Eclipse-based system management tool that connects to either a
CICS TS for z/OS system, or CICS TS for VSE/ESA system. CICS Explorer provides a way of managing
one or more CICS systems, providing
a view of some of the CICSPlex® SM
functions in CICS Transaction
Server and a platform for the integration of future CICS tools. When connected to a z/OS system,
CICS Explorer also provides an intuitive and secure way to view and
edit z/OS® data sets and zFS
files, submit JCL, and view output and job logs.
Introduction to Eclipse
Eclipse is a platform for building and deploying client
applications in which the majority of data manipulation is done by
the client application rather than the server. This platform is known
as a Rich Client Platform (RCP). The platform provides the ability
to deploy native graphical user interface (GUI) applications to a
variety of desktop operating systems, and present the user with a
simple, consistent view.
The IBM z/OS Explorer
The IBM® Explorer
for z/OS (z/OS Explorer) provides a framework to manage
your system connections, and provide access to System z® functions. The z/OS Explorer is an integrated part of CICS Explorer but with
its own z/OS Explorer User
Guide.
Workload management with CICS Explorer
CICS
Explorer presents a new way of managing your CICSPlex SM workloads. There is no change
to the way the CICSPlex SM
workload management operates, but by using CICS Explorer you can get a simplified
and consolidated view of the CICSPlex SM
elements that control where, and how, the work is distributed in a
workload.
