An editor opens in a separate tab group called the editor area. The editor area shares many features with the other tab groups, but does have some limitations which are identified later in this topic.
When you create a new resource definition, you can select the Open editor check box to open the appropriate resource editor when you have finished the wizard. Alternatively, to edit resources that you already defined at an earlier time, you can open an editor from a resource definition view or from a project view. Right-click the resource name and then click Open, or double-click the resource name.
The editor area is shown in the following screen capture containing the editor, which is the active view.
You can minimize, maximize, or resize the editor area, but there are some limitations on moving the editor area and editor.
You change the size of the editor area in the same way that you change the size of the other tab groups, but the editor area cannot be moved in the same way as the other tab groups. To reposition the editor area in the workbench, you must move the other tab groups around the editor area. For example, to reposition the editor area more to the middle of the workbench, drag the tabular views tab group and drop it at the other side of the editor group as shown in the following screen capture.
If you open more than one instance of the editor, you can move the views around in the editor area; for example, you can position them vertically or horizontally as shown in the following screen capture, but you cannot move the editor instances into a different tab group.
If you reset the perspective, the perspective is restored to the default layout, however any open editors are not changed and remain in the workbench. Similarly, if you change to another perspective, any open editors remain visible in the new perspective.
