Capturing trace data

When the CICS Explorer® is running it is constantly recording trace information in its trace buffers. If there is an unexpected failure, the CICS Explorer automatically writes the trace information out to the error log to help identify the cause of the failure. You can force the current information in the trace buffers to be written to the error log using the Trace > flush menu option.

About this task

The error log is stored in a folder on your computer called a Eclipse workspace. This task describes how you can flush the CICS Explorer trace buffers to record any unexpected or unusual behavior that might require further investigation.

Procedure

Click File > Trace > Flush from the workbench menu bar. The contents of the trace buffer are written to the CICS Explorer error log.

What to do next

You can view the error log locally or format it ready for sending to an IBM® representative. Remember to record the actions that you were performing at the time the failure occurred. This will assist the IBM service representative if the problem requires further analysis. See the related links for further information.
