Adding variables to an action

Menu Manager provides z/OSĀ® variables that you can use to gather information from users or from the objects your actions operate on.

About this task

The Menu Manager z/OS variables are available when you create an action that operates on a data set, data set member, or file.

Procedure

To see available z/OS variables, complete the following steps:

  1. Create or open a local or remote action.
  2. Open the Run Options page of the wizard.
    Run Options page
  3. Click Variables.
The Substitution Variables window opens. This window can have two formats:
    • If the action was created for a specific context, then the window contains a list of variables you can use in that context.
    • If the action was created for all contexts, by specifying Context: All in the New Action Page, then the window contains a list of contexts. For a complete list of z/OS contexts, see the related links.
  4. Choose a context from the list to see the available variables.
The list of variables is specific to each context. The list also includes variable descriptions. For some examples of using substitution variables with Menu Manager actions, see the related links.
