Configuring a working directory
If Remote Connection Emulator fails to start, you might need to configure a working directory for the S3270 executable file. Use the Remote Connection Emulator Preferences page to specify a working directory.
When the Remote Connection Emulator starts, it creates and runs the s3270 executable file in the temp folder. At some locations, security restrictions prevent binary executable files from running in the temp folder. If this is the situation at your location, you can specify an alternative working folder for the s3270 executable file.
- Open the Preferences window and navigate to Remote Connection Emulator.
- Click Browse and navigate to or create a folder for the s3270 executable file. For example, you might create a folder named C:\RCEWork on Windows or /Applications/RCEWork on macOS.
- Click Save and Close.
- Restart the product.
When you start the Remote Connection Emulator, it creates and starts the
s3270 executable file in a folder named idz-tn3270 at the
location you specified. It replicates the directory path of the Eclipse workspace in this folder,
for example:
- Windows: C:\RCEWork\idz-tn3270\Users\YourUserName\workspace\s3270
- macOS: /Applications/RCEWork/idz-tn3270/Users/YourUserName/workspace/s3270
