Creating a local or remote z/OS UNIX file

You can create local and remote files and view them from a z/OS® UNIX subproject.

Procedure

To create a file, complete the following steps:

  1. Switch to the z/OS Projects perspective.
  2. In the z/OS Projects view, right-click anywhere in the view to open the menu.
Tip: If you right-click a z/OS UNIX subproject to open the menu, that subproject is selected as the default z/OS UNIX subproject when you specify the parent folder and the z/OS UNIX subproject filter that you want the new file to be displayed in.
  3. Select New > File to open the New File (Remote and Local) Wizard.
New File (Remote and Local) Wizard
The tree view shows all of the available connections in RSE. You can browse within each connection to find the parent folder and z/OS UNIX subproject filter that you want the new file to be displayed in. To create a connection or folder, right-click in the tree view and select one of the following from the menu:
    • New > Connection
    • New > Folder
Note: NFS and SMB connections are displayed within the Local connection.
  4. From the tree of available resources, select the parent folder that you want to create the file in.
Tip: If the tree view does not contain any resources, you must create a subproject or a filter. To create a subproject or filter, right-click in the tree view and select one of the following from the menu:
    • New > z/OS UNIX Subproject
    • New > Filter
For detailed information about creating connections, folders, subprojects, and filters, see the related topics.
  5. In the File name(s) field, type the name of the new file, including the file name extension, such as .xml, to indicate the file type.
To create multiple files in the selected parent folder, type the name of each file that you want to create, separated by commas. For example, type Myfile1.xml, Myfile2.xml, Myfile3.xml.
  6. Click Next to proceed to the z/OS UNIX File Filter page.
  7. Select the z/OS UNIX subproject filter that you want the new file to be displayed in, and then click Finish.

Results

The new file is displayed in the z/OS Projects view and is automatically opened in the default editor.
